Teaching Hospital of IMC


BIRDEM General Hospital and BIRDEM General Hospital for Mothers and Children are the teaching hospitals of IMC. It is about 750 bedded multidisciplinary Hospital Complex at Shahbagh and Shegunbagicha. It has already earned a national and international reputation as a center of excellence for medical services and research, presently designated as a WHO Collaborating Centre for diabetes and endocrine disorders. The hospital is housed in two magnificent buildings, one is 15 storied & the other is 13 storied. Over 4,168 patients attend the outpatient departments daily. In the in-patient departments, among 750 beds, 30% are free. BIRDEM Academy runs 14 post-graduation courses in different disciplines. Besides postgraduate students, medical students of IMC (Ibrahim Medical College) & internee doctors of IMC are placed in all the departments of BIRDEM.
Following successful completion of the first professional MBBS examination (after 1 ½ years), students (12-15/batch) are placed in different departments/units of BIRDEM General Hospital for a total period of 3 ½ years for clinical training and ward-duties as per the roster suggested by BMDC curriculum. That student and Hospital bed ratio is 1:7.
